Angus Issues: Using EDA and Forecasting of Best Animal Science Practices

Challenge background

A lot of research currently exists published in the last 25 years, however the information is scattered and takes a high reading level to understand the datasets, and the conclusions thereof.  Our aim is to create a tool that ranchers can use to understand the benefits of different techniques of carried heifers and calf raising.

The problem

Creating a tool, that can assist ranchers in livestock management best practices and estimate growth times and scoring weight.

Goal of the project

We plan on several phases of the project:

1. Data Collection and Aggregation

This phase of the project consists of taking as much data as possible from Oklahoma State University (Stillwater), and Texas A&M ag sciences department and attempting to make sense of the features and how the data goes together.

2. Exploratory Data Analysis with logical flowcharts

Flowcharts of the dataflow is very important.  If we can create a flowchart of relational data, we can establish trendlines using several techniques

3. Time Series Data Analysis of Cost and Time to Market

We would like to create a time Series Analysis and output variables of Time to Market using naturally grown cattle and not using IVF or other growth hormones.

4. Creating a Calculation Device with DOM logic in a modern framework to assist farmers

This phase of the project will commence once the first 3 stages are complete.
