Our region is known for its rapid urbanization and industrial growth, which has significantly increased the emission of greenhouse gases and air pollutants. As a result, communities living in and around urban centers are exposed to elevated health risks, particularly respiratory diseases, which impose a substantial financial burden on affected individuals and healthcare systems.
Our local focus area, similar to Nairobi, will be on urban centers with significant industrial activities. By collaborating with local industries, government agencies, and community organizations, we aim to gain access to relevant data and promote a transparent and participatory approach to mitigating emissions.
The problem
The data and evidence generated by your project can influence local policymakers and authorities to adopt evidence-based environmental policies and regulations. This can lead to the implementation of stricter emission control measures and sustainable development practices.
Identifying areas with high pollutant concentrations can aid in the development of targeted public health interventions to reduce exposure and mitigate health risks.
Goal of the project
- Measure and monitor the concentrations of key pollutants, such as greenhouse gases (e.g., CO2, CH4, N2O) and air pollutants (e.g., PM, SO2, NOx), in various areas of the community.
- Assess the environmental impact of emissions on local air quality, water quality, soil health, and ecosystems to understand the scope and severity of environmental degradation.
