As 2023 winds down, Omdena’s collaboration with various global partners, including The Asia Foundation and the UK FCDO, has set a remarkable precedent in applying AI for global good. With projects spanning Tanzania, Nepal, El Salvador, Mongolia, Bhutan, and more, this year has been a testament to the power of AI in addressing diverse challenges worldwide. These initiatives have underscored the value of AI in environmental conservation, societal upliftment, and combating misinformation, all while being culturally sensitive and locally relevant.
Partnering with the UK FCDO, Omdena launched a critical initiative in Tanzania, focusing on mangrove deforestation. The project introduced a state-of-the-art AI tool for environmental monitoring, aiding in forest management and conservation. More than 100 local citizens were empowered with essential skills, intertwining technological innovation with community involvement for sustainable environmental stewardship.

Omdena, in collaboration with CSM Stand, has been tackling the pressing issues of misinformation and media literacy. This endeavor spans various countries, including Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and El Salvador. Omdena is playing a crucial role in promoting a well-informed and literate society by developing AI solutions to fight disinformation.
In Bhutan, Omdena’s efforts have led to the upskilling of 600 individuals, fostering a new wave of AI talent. This initiative is transforming Bhutan into a technological hub, equipping the next generation of AI experts and leaders.

Omdena’s expansion has been significant, with over 25 new chapters established in key regions worldwide. These chapters are instrumental in bringing Omdena’s vision of AI for good to more communities, enhancing global impact.
Collaborating with over 15 universities, Omdena has strengthened its educational foundation. These partnerships ensure sustainable progress through knowledge-sharing and collaboration, contributing to a more informed and skilled global community.

This year, Omdena delved deeper into AI ethics and grassroots development. The focus has been on creating inclusive and ethical AI solutions that truly reflect the needs of the people, embodying the principle of ‘by the people, for the people.’ We wrote down our ethical code which can be found here.
Reflecting on the accomplishments of 2023, Omdena’s work across various continents showcases the versatility and potential of AI as a tool for positive change. In 2023 alone, Omdena worked with over 60 organizations in 50 countries. The organization’s commitment to ethical, inclusive, and locally relevant AI solutions promises even more innovative and impactful solutions in 2024.
